Compartment-based Anatomy of the Pelvis Revisited
Dr. Sigmar Stelzner from the Department of Visceral, Transplantation, Thoracic and Vascular Surgery at Leipzig University Hospital and Dr. Tillmann Heinze from the Center for Clinical Anatomy at the Institute of Anatomy at Kiel University (Director: Prof. Dr. Thilo Wedel) as well as an interdisciplinary team of co-authors have been awarded for their work Beyond total mesorectal excision - compartment-based anatomy of the pelvis revisited for the exenterative pelvic surgery the Summer Special Quarterly Publication Award (QPA) 2024 by the Anatomische Gesellschaft.
This anatomical description of the MRI-based 7 pelvic compartments highlights key anatomical landmarks and defines optimal dissection planes for tailored exenterative pelvic surgeries in advanced rectal cancer patients.
