Prof. Dr. med. Thilo Wedel, Director of the Institute of Anatomy at Kiel University and Head of the Center for Clinical Anatomy, has been awarded the Rudolf Pichlmayr Medal in Silver by the German Society for General and Visceral Surgery (DGAV). The award is presented to individuals who have rendered outstanding services to the DGAV and this year, for the first time, went to an anatomist. Professor Wedel was involved in numerous DGAV activities (guidelines, advanced training curriculum, Surgery Update) and established special surgical courses for laparoscopic and robot-assisted interventions on the gastrointestinal tract in addition to the “Theatrum anatomicum et chirurgicum”. With his contributions to anatomical research and specialist books, Professor Wedel has made a significant contribution to clearly communicating the importance of the subject of anatomy - in particular clinical macroscopy - for surgical disciplines. The award ceremony took place at the Visceral Medicine Congress in Leipzig on October 2, 2024.
