Trauermeldung: Professor Giovanni Orlandini

The Anatomical Society mourns the death of its HONORARY MEMBER Professor Giovanni E. Orlandini, Department of Anatomy, Histology and Forensic Medicine, University of Florence, Viale Morgagni, 85, 50134 Florence, Italy.

Dr. Giovanni Orlandini was born in Florence on May 17, 1934, studied medicine at the University of Florence, graduating with honors in 1958. From 1960 to 1969, he was an assistant professor at the Institute of Anatomy of the Faculty of Medicine of Florence. In 1969 he was appointed full professor of anatomy and director of the Anatomical Institute at the University of Sassari, where he remained for three years. In 1972 he was appointed to the Chair of Histology and Embryology at the University of Parma. From 1974 to 2008 he was full professor of anatomy at the University of Florence, where he was dean of the Faculty of Medicine from 1986 to 2001 and then again from 2007 to 2008. In 2009, he was appointed Emeritus by the Italian Ministry of University and Research. Giovanni Orlandini was elected to the Board of Directors of the Anatomical Society by its members for the years 1990-1993; in 1991 he was President and opened the 86th Annual Meeting of the Anatomical Society in Szeged, Hungary, and from 1997 to 2004 he was President of the Italian College of Anatomy. In 2005, he was elected president of the Italian Society of Anatomy and Histology. In 1999, during the 94th Assembly of the Anatomical Society in Hamburg, Giovanni Orlandini became honorary member of the Society in recognition of his achievements to German-Italian scientific cooperation during his career. He is the author of more than 250 publications on various topics of macroscopic and microscopic anatomy and has promoted and co-authored a textbook of anatomy with a wide national (Italian) circulation.

The Anatomical Society will honour the memory of Giovanni E. Orlandini.
