Heidelberg scientists receive the "BIAL Award in Biomedicine" endowed with 300,000 euros

A team of scientists from Heidelberg has received a prestigious award for their groundbreaking discovery of how healthy nerve cells in the brain make contact with the tumor cells of glioblastomas and thus fuel the spread of these incurable brain tumors: The researchers from Heidelberg University, Heidelberg University Hospital and the German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg were honored with the "BIAL Award in Biomedicine". This award, which comes with prize money of 300,000 euros, is presented by the BIAL Foundation in Portugal. Dr. Dr. Varun Venkataramani, Prof. Dr. Frank Winkler and Prof. Dr. Thomas Kuner received the award from the Portuguese Minister of Health at a ceremony in Lisbon on February 20, 2024.
